Designed by DRILL DESIGN Paper-Wood is a new type of plywood developed through a two-year workshop based on the concept of material design—an approach that begins with the material itself. To fully bring out the intrinsic charm of Paper-Wood, the design has been reduced to its essentials, with every detail carefully considered. The result is a product that gently balances the presence of the material with the function of telling time. The lines and dots indicating the time are precisely crafted using CNC woodworking technology. The coloured line patterns revealed through engraving are a distinctive expression unique to Paper-Wood. Paper-Wood Paper-Wood is a new type of plywood made from layers of coloured recycled paper and wood veneer. The exposed edges reveal vibrant, colourful patterns unlike anything found in conventional plywood, giving the material its distinctive character. The material was developed in 2009 by the Plywood Research Laboratory through a collaboration between DRILL DESIGN, FULLSWING, and TAKIZAWA VENEER, a plywood manufacturer based in Hokkaido, Japan. Today, this innovative material is used by many renowned designers and architects in a wide range of architectural, interior, and product design projects.
