Her illness forced her to live with pain and frequent hospital stays for most of her life. Settling in San Francisco as a 19 year old single mom, during the turbulent and exciting 1960s, she scraped out a living, making one of a kind jewelry in her kitchen. Her jewelry, made out of discarded pieces of metal, beads and other found objects, became hugely successful.
