Paracetamol is one of the most widely used analgesics available, working by blocking the chemical signals in the brain that tell the body it is in pain, and by reducing fever as an antipyretic. Dihydrocodeine is an opioid analgesic that works through a different pathway, binding to opioid receptors in the central nervous system to reduce the perception of pain signals travelling up the spinal cord. Together, the two actives target pain from two distinct angles simultaneously, which is what makes the combination effective for moderate pain that standard single-ingredient painkillers have failed to manage. Paramol is suitable for a range of everyday pain conditions including headaches, migraines, dental pain, period pain, backache, and muscular and joint aches. Tablets are smooth, white caplets embossed with "Paramol" and are taken during or after meals with a glass of water. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time, and do not use for more than three days without medical advice. Paramol contains dihydrocodeine, which can cause addiction if taken continuously. If you find you need to take it for longer than three days, seek advice from your GP or pharmacist. Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing medicines. Contains Dihydrocodeine Tartrate. This medicine can cause addiction if taken continuously for more than three days. Taking it for longer may also cause withdrawal symptoms when you stop. If you take a painkiller for headaches for more than three days it can make headaches worse. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Adults: maximum 8 tablets in 24 hours. Children aged 12 to 15: maximum 4 tablets in 24 hours. Leave at least 4 hours between doses. Do not use for more than 3 days without seeking medical advice. Do not take if you are allergic to Paracetamol, Dihydrocodeine, or any other ingredients in this product. Do not take if you suffer from diarrhoea caused by poisoning or watery and severe diarrhoea which may be bloody. Do not drink alcohol while taking Paramol. This medicine may cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery if affected. Seek immediate medical attention in the event of an overdose, even if you feel well. Paracetamol overdose can cause serious delayed liver damage. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before use if you have liver or kidney problems, respiratory conditions, head injury, a history of opioid dependence, or are taking any other medicines.
