A rare, spherical cactus hailing from South America, Parodia buiningii is a solitary grower reaching only a few inches in height. A heavily ribbed, deep green stem with lime green highlighting along the crest of each ridge is offset by wooly areoles from which four or more long spines emerge, featuring a gradient of color from deep maroon to soft yellow. Native to the harsh landscapes of Brazil and Uruguay, Parodia buiningii prefers full, direct sun to retain its vigor and to send out large, yellow blooms atop its stem each summer. As with most cacti, its prefers thorough watering with periods of dryness in between – not allowing for these dry spells will encourage issues such as rot to take hold. A very porous soil mixture, such as a commercially available cactus mix supplemented with pumice or perlite, will encourage these periods of dryness, as will a pot with sufficient drainage. During the winter months, take care to shield Parodia buiningii from frost, and to retain temperatures above 40 degrees whenever possible. **Please note: This plant is not available for wholesale** Show more
