Pu‘uhonua o Hōnaunau, a place of refuge, is a lovely 420-acre historical park on the west coast of Hawaiʻi Island. Hale o Keawe is a main features of this unique site, once holding the bones and spiritual power of over 20 high chiefs of old Hawaiʻi. The hale is protected by several ki‘i (wooden images of the gods) that act as spiritual protectors and signify that this is a special and important place.
