Patrón Añejo Sherry Cask Aged Tequila 750ML is a 100% Weber Blue Agave añejo tequila aged over two years exclusively in Oloroso sherry barrels, bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). What sets this expression apart from the core Patrón Añejo is its full-term maturation in sherry casks rather than the standard bourbon barrel aging typical of most añejo tequilas — a distinction that delivers an unusually rich, dried-fruit-forward profile rare in the category.Quick Facts: ABV: 40% (80 Proof) | Origin: Jalisco, Mexico | Aged 2+ Years in Oloroso Sherry Casks | Distillery: Hacienda PatrónProduction & HeritageHacienda Patrón, located in the highlands of Jalisco, produces this expression using a hybrid crushing technique: half the agave is processed with a traditional volcanic stone tahona wheel, and the other half is crushed with a modern roller mill. These two distillates are blended before aging, a signature Patrón method designed to marry the earthy depth of tahona-crushed agave with the cleaner, brighter character from the roller mill. The liquid then spends more than two years maturing entirely in Oloroso sherry casks — not merely finished in them — which accounts for the deep honey color and distinctly vinous quality that separates this bottling from the standard Patrón Añejo lineup.Tasting NotesAroma: The nose opens with fresh apricots and sun-dried Medjool dates, shifting into stewed pear and ripe banana. Deeper layers reveal golden raisin, dried fig, vanilla pudding, and honey-glazed walnuts — a fruitcake-like complexity that signals the Oloroso cask influence.Taste: The palate enters rich and rounded with fig preserves and stone fruit compote, quickly layering in caramel and toasted walnut at the mid-palate. As it develops, fermented pineapple, coconut, and warm baking spices emerge alongside piloncillo sweetness, with a subtle cranberry tartness and lemon peel acidity providing welcome balance against the brown sugar and molasses depth.Finish: Long-lasting, rich, and warm, anchored by baked pear and lingering dried cherry. The sherry cask influence carries through to the very end with a soft nuttiness and traces of dark caramel that fade slowly. How to Drink Patrón Sherry CaskThis expression rewards slow sipping neat, where its layered dried-fruit and nut complexity can fully unfold. A single large ice cube opens up the caramel and stone fruit notes without diluting the sherry cask character. It also stands up well in spirit-forward cocktails: Oaxaca Old Fashioned — The fig and caramel depth pairs naturally with mole bitters and agave syrup, creating a richer variation on the classic. Añejo Manhattan — Substituted for whiskey, the sherry-influenced dried fruit and walnut notes complement sweet vermouth rather than competing with it. Tequila Sour — The cranberry tartness and lemon peel acidity already present in the spirit integrate seamlessly with fresh citrus juice and egg white. Best For Gifting a tequila enthusiast looking for something beyond standard añejo expressions Side-by-side tasting against bourbon-barrel-aged añejos to explore the impact of cask type After-dinner sipping alongside dessert courses featuring dried fruit, nuts, or caramel Collectors building a library of specialty-cask tequilas Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does Patrón Sherry Cask taste like? It delivers rich fig preserves, stone fruit compote, and caramel up front, followed by toasted walnut, baking spices, and a long baked-pear finish. The overall profile is markedly more dried-fruit-forward and vinous than standard bourbon-barrel-aged añejos. How does Patrón Sherry Cask compare to Don Julio 1942? Don Julio 1942 is aged for a minimum of two and a half years primarily in American white oak bourbon barrels, resulting in a butterscotch and vanilla-driven profile, while Patrón Sherry Cask derives its character entirely from Oloroso sherry casks, yielding a darker, more dried-fruit and nut-heavy flavor. Both sit in the premium añejo tier, but the cask difference gives each a fundamentally distinct personality. Is Patrón Sherry Cask good for sipping neat? Yes — the extended aging and sherry cask influence produce a smooth, complex spirit with enough depth and evolving layers to reward slow, contemplative sipping without any mixer or dilution.Where is Patrón Sherry Cask made? It is produced at the Hacienda Patrón distillery in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, one of the country's premier agave-growing regions known for producing tequilas with sweeter, more fruit-forward character. What foods pair well with Patrón Sherry Cask? Dark chocolate truffles complement the caramel and dried cherry notes; aged Manchego cheese echoes the nutty sherry cask character; mole negro mirrors the baking spice and dried fruit complexity; pecan pie aligns with the walnut and brown sugar profile; and dried fruit and charcuterie boards provide a textural contrast to the spirit's richness. What sizes does Patrón Sherry Cask come in? The standard bottling is available in 750ml format. Is Patrón Sherry Cask worth the price? It positions as a premium añejo expression above the core Patrón Añejo, and the exclusive use of Oloroso sherry casks for the full aging period — rather than a brief finishing — provides a genuine production-driven justification for the higher price point within the premium tequila category. Why Patrón Sherry Cask? The single most important thing to understand about this tequila is that it is entirely aged in Oloroso sherry barrels for over two years — not merely finished in them for a few months, as is common in the growing number of sherry-influenced spirits. That full-term maturation creates a fundamentally different flavor architecture, one rooted in dried stone fruit, fig, and warm baking spice rather than the vanilla and butterscotch associated with American oak. The hybrid tahona-and-roller-mill distillation adds textural complexity that pure tahona or pure roller-mill tequilas cannot replicate on their own. For drinkers exploring how cask type shapes tequila, this bottling makes one of the clearest and most compelling cases available.
