The May Launch Special:All classes in May are offered at special introductory pricing to celebrate the launch of our Design Studio—so if this has been on your “I should really learn this” list, now’s a good time to jump in. Before the Cut: From Pattern to Perfect You carefully follow a pattern you love, only to discover the garment doesn’t fit as you imagined. Maybe the proportions are off, there are drag lines, or something is just not quite right. You’re left with limited options since you’ve already cut the final fabric. If you’ve ever put together a project only to confront an ill-fitting reality, you are not alone. There’s a way to resolve fit issues at the pattern level, before you even cut. By translating real life fit onto paper with professional draping and patternmaking techniques, you’ll learn to address fit at the core level so your project fits from the start! Here’s what we’ll cover: Session 1: Read & Mock-up -Learn about common pattern adjustments with hands on examples -Begin reading and analyzing your own pattern to start applying these skills -Dive into the basics of mock-ups (choosing fabric, what’s important, how to simplify) -Learn how to create a quick and easy mock-up to make a big impact on the final product Between Sessions: Cut and mock-up your garment (a shell with no closures or finishes!) Session 2: Form to Flat -Learn to pin your mockup so the garment will fit just right -Translate those pins from mock-up to pattern so you can achieve the perfect fit every time What to Bring: A basic bodice pattern you’ve used (or struggled with) Pencil and paper for notetaking Muslin or Inexpensive test fabric (similar to your final, scrap encouraged, can be acquired at or after first session)
