Paua Abalone Shell Pen Blank - Ruby - Emperor This pen blank is made with beautiful dyed Paua Abalone Shell. Paua Abalone shell is harvested and cleaned and the most beautiful part of the shell is used in jewelry and other applications that call for a stunning iridescent material. The Paua is cut into thin strips, then ever so delicately each strip is meticulously hand-applied onto the pen tube. It is then cast in clear polyester resin to enhance and protect its' beauty. This blank comes tubed to fit the full-size Emperor, Oriental Dragon, pen kits. (Pen Kits are available separately.) As with all polyester resins, sharp tools are a must. As with all polyester resins, sharp tools are a must. Using a pen mill is NOT recommended. The blanks make beautiful pens and are for the more advanced turner. Turning experience is suggested. The blanks are returnable if they have not been machined in any way (including facing).
