Paul Masson VSOP 200ML is a blended brandy combining American grape spirit with French cognac, bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a convenient 200ml format. Quick Facts: ABV: 40% (80 Proof) | Origin: California, USA / Bardstown, Kentucky | Aged 4 Years | Bottled at Tom Moore Distillery Production & Heritage Paul Masson VSOP starts with premium grapes distilled in central California. The resulting American brandy is aged for four years in oak barrels, then blended with imported French cognac before bottling — a hybrid production approach that distinguishes it from most competitors in the domestic brandy space. Final aging and bottling take place at the historic Tom Moore distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, a facility with deep roots in American spirits production. This blending technique bridges Old World tradition and New World grape character in a single bottle. Tasting Notes Aroma: The nose opens with toasted oak and creamy vanilla before giving way to ripe pear, praline, and soft chocolate. A subtle boozy hazelnut note lingers underneath, adding warmth and depth. Taste: Entry is smooth, led by vanilla and caramel that coat the palate. At mid-palate, pear and grape notes emerge alongside oak spice and ginger, creating a layered profile that echoes traditional Cognac flavors. Dark chocolate and a subtle bourbon-barrel influence from the American oak aging round out the experience. Finish: The finish is powerful and dry, with allspice, espresso, and cigar tobacco carrying through with surprising persistence. Toasted oak reappears and fades gradually, leaving a well-aged complexity behind. How to Drink Paul Masson VSOP Neat or with a single ice cube is the most direct way to appreciate the cognac-brandy blend and its oak-driven complexity. The 200ml size makes it a practical choice for sampling or travel. In a Sidecar, the pear and vanilla notes pair naturally with Cointreau and lemon juice. A Brandy Old Fashioned lets the allspice and dark chocolate character stand up to bitters and a sugar cube. For a lighter serve, a Brandy Sour highlights the grape backbone and caramel sweetness against fresh citrus.
