Original vintage movie poster for the first release of the iconic Star Wars saga by George Lucas starring Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Alec Guinness as Obi Wan-Kenobi, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker as the droids C3-PO and R2-D2, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin and David Prowse as Darth Vader. This design by the British poster artist Tom William Chantrell (1916-2001), became instantly recognisable and closely associated with the Star Wars film, featuring the tagline May The Force Be With You below a dynamic image of the main characters firing guns and lightsabres in front of the Death Star and tie-fighters on a black background. Two versions of the poster were produced, this one being the rarer example: Following the film's launch in the UK, Star Wars was nominated for the Oscars so the studios added text about the nomination to the poster. At the time, only the larger cinemas were showing the film before its nomination and it's these pre-Oscar posters that are the rarer of the two versions. Horizontal, British quad poster.
