Bosc produces a high quality pear for the home orchardist. It is a heritage variety that originated in France at least as early as the 1850s and possibly earlier. The fruit is russ eted and a warm cinnamon colour, while the shape is elongated and narrow. The texture of a Bosc pear is smooth and buttery while the flavour is rich and sweet. These pears can be kept late into the fall with cool storage and brought out to ripen as needed in batches. An all-purpose pear, Bosc is great in desserts, on a cheese board or in baking.
