It was originally developed in France in the mid-19th century and introd uced by the Horticultural Society of Maine-et-Loire in 1849. This variety received the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 1993 and was reconfirmed in 2013! Structurally, Comice is large and round in shape with a short, defined neck. Its smooth, thin skin ripens to a greenish-yellow tone, often adorned with a warm red blush on one side. Beneath the skin lies creamy, buttery flesh that seems to melt in the mouth. The flavor is a luxurious blend of honey-like sweetness and delicate floral notes, making Comice the quintessential dessert pear.
