Red Bartlett is a striking sport of the classic Bartlett pear, offering the same sweet, aromatic flavour in a beautiful crimson-red skin. The fruit ripens in late summer, developing a rich red blush over a yellow background. When fully ripe, the flesh is smooth, buttery, and exceptionally juicy — ideal for fresh eating, preserves, and poaching. This is a vigorous, upright-growing tree that benefits from annual pruning to maintain structure and light penetration. Like standard Bartlett, it is highly productive and reliable once established. Harvest when fruit begins to soften slightly at the stem end; allow to finish ripening off the tree for best texture and flavour. Red Bartlett requires cross-pollination with another European pear such as ‘Bosc’, ‘Anjou’, or ‘Conference’ for optimal fruit set.
