Pearl Gourami Trichopodus leerii Pearl Gourami's are a coveted fish for the home aquarium for a plethora of different reasons. Their body is flecked with small iridescent circles that are reminiscent of pearls, hence their name. Like most of its family, the Pearl Gourami is considered semi-aggressive, so they should be housed with fish in a similar size range and temperament, but nothing too aggressive or the Gourami will hide. Because they can become quite territorial, it is recommended to keep one per tank to avoid squabbling between adults. Pearl Gourami are omnivores and will readily accept algae-based foods like flakes or pellets alongside meaty frozen foods such as brine shrimp. Pearl Gourami Specifics Pearl Gourami grows to a size of 4-4.5" in length, so a minimum tank size of 30 gallons for one adult is required. Their water temperature should be set between 61-79oF and their pH between 6.0-8.0.
