The Pelican hunts by dive-bombing into the water, often swooping down from heights of 60 - 70 ft. Their impressively large beak pouch can hold as much as three gallons of water! Th is image of a rascally Pelican is taken from a watercolour on paper painting by award-winning artist Daniel Mackie. The artist's work is heavily influenced by the Japanese print makers of the Ukiyo-e period, between 1670 and 1870. Daniel creates highly decorative designs that lift the spirit and warm the heart.
