Sunset Drive For her debut collection ‘Pillars of Meerschaum’ at The Salon Art & Design Show, Feyza Kemahlioglu designed one-of-a-kind lighting pieces. Inspired by the architecture and culture of Istanbul where she grew up, ‘Pillars of Meerschaum’ is a study into the juxtaposition of tradition and modernity. The leading material in her collection is Meerschaum, German for “sea-foam”, a soft white clay mineral, found mainly in Eskisehir, a small city in central Turkey. By taking an antiquated material and giving it a contemporary aesthetic and function, FEYZ brings the old and the new together to create a timeless design. Turkish craftsman carved the Meerschaum with intricate patterns and perforations to diffuse the light. The stone is combined with hand-blown glass and brass parts in New York. The blown glass compliments the detailing on the Meerschaum by the addition of delicate textures made with cane and gold leaf. Made to order by FEYZ Studio in New York. Please inquire here.
