Rather than depicting the landscape literally, the pattern translates the movement, reflections and life surrounding the water into Pendleton’s distinctive jacquard language. Cool-toned diamonds evoke the currents and eddies of a meandering creek, while graduated bands of color reference the changing appearance of water as it approaches the sun-warmed surface. Smaller graphic elements represent the tracks of bears, wolves, deer and other animals drawn to the stream to drink – a reminder of the constant presence of wildlife within these remote forest landscapes. Woven in Pendleton’s own American mills from 82% pure virgin wool and 18% cotton, the Creekside is left unnapped. This preserves the sharp definition of its intricate diamonds, stripes and smaller geometric details while creating a flatter, more structured hand. The reversible jacquard construction reveals a distinctly different color balance on the reverse, effectively offering two interpretations of the same design.
