Created intuitively and organically in her Ojai studio, Firoozeh Neman’s hand built ceramic sculptures revolve around the human form, but they reach beyond mere representation. Each piece embodies an exploration of the divine feminine, capturing its subtle power and grace through raw, tactile expression. The visible hand of the artist imparts a primitive, impressionistic quality to the works, imbuing them with a sense of immediacy and emotional depth. Neman’s work delves into the layers of feminine identity and energy, with her evolving practice continuing to experiment with color and form. Each sculpture becomes a meditation on both the physical and spiritual dimensions of being, inviting viewers to connect with the primal and the transcendent in equal measure. In Neman’s Words: “They all start with a clump of clay. It boggles my mind how each develops into a character unique to itself. Sometimes as I’m wrapping up a piece, doing the last touch ups, a name pops up into my mind. I‘d like to think that they are introducing themselves to me.”
