Overview Family: Loricariidae Bristlenose Plecos (Ancistrus spp.) are among the most popular and hardy algae-eating fish in the hobby. Native to South American streams, they are smaller and more manageable than common Plecos, making them perfect for medium-sized aquariums. Males develop distinctive bristles on their snouts, used for display and territory defense. They are reasonable algae eaters, mostly active at night, and thrive in tanks with driftwood, caves, and stable water conditions.
