Diospyros virginiana 'Yates'Variety description: Very large fruits for a native persimmon, reported up to 2.5" in diameter. Ripening late August- September. Very productive. Self f ertile. Discovered by Ed Yates of Cincinnati, OH. Yates won first place at the Mitchell Persimmon Festival in 1983. Site requirements: Persimmons grow best in a full sun location with fertile, well-drained soil. They are quite adaptable and will grow in poor, dry soils, though such conditions are far from ideal. Size at maturity: With pruning, trees can be maintained at 15-20'.
