Ficus carica 'Petite Negra' This "little black" fig packs a big punch! Able to start producing fruit when less than 12 inches tall, Petite Negri is a natural dwarf that only grows to 4-6 feet at maturity. Will produce 2 crops in warm locations; the beautiful dark fruits have a wine-red interior and a fantastic, richly sweet flavor. Very similar to Violette de Bordeaux, but slightly earlier to ripen and more dwarfing form. Well-suited to pots or planted in-ground in warm zones, they can also be grown in pots planted 3/4 into the ground in lower zones, then sever the roots that have escaped into the surrounding soil and lift the pots for storage in a lightly heated greenhouse or enclosed porch. Leaves will drop in winter, then bring the pot outdoors and let it settle into the previous years' hole and enjoy the summer outside! This variety is grown from tissue culture and has been heat-treated to significantly reduce the presence of Fig Mosaic Virus.
