The Petrel SG kayak is a versatile and high-performing sea kayak that boasts modern features including waterproof rubber hatches and a day hatch, recessed to minimize spray and aid in rescue efforts. Separated by a sloped bulkhead, the day hatch allows for easy removal of water from the cockpit. Additionally, the kayak can be equipped with a reliable and efficient retractable skeg, positioned off-center to prevent jamming. Designed with a transitioning chine, the bow has a soft front and a hard back, achieved through a 3-panel per side bow and a 2-panel per side stern. This allows for excellent control while surfing and softer landings on waves. Though the S&G Petrel may be more challenging to build, its complex design results in superior performance on the water. Compared to the strip version, the S&G Petrel is a quicker and easier build, making it an ideal long-distance touring kayak for smaller paddlers or a day/overnight option for Nick has produced a full video series providing in-depth instructions for the complete build of the Petrel Play.
