The wrought iron for the cladding was forged in an Anchor link chain from Cornwall. Distal taper from 4.25mm at the handle to 2.4mm mid blade to 0.9mm at the tip. Core harden at 63-64HRC. Kurouchi blade, flat double bevel with Kasumi. Weight : 102 gr / Balance point : handle heavy (from the heel 25mm) Wa handle made from Burl Oak (unstabilised) and black walnut 125mm length. I prefer carbon steel for it ease to sharpen, the fine edge it takes and the beautiful patina that will develop. You do, however, need to give carbon steel knives just a little extra care to keep them in top shape. There are trade-offs in everything. The knife is polished using whetstones.
