One of the most famous and powerful rituals in the entire Western magical tradition. Originally an exorcism formula from the Greek Magical Papyri (2nd century BCE–5th century CE), the Headless Rite (also called the Bornless Rite) invokes the "Headless One": a being of absolute divine authority, to banish, protect, and establish the operator's spiritual sovereignty. Aleister Crowley adapted this as Liber Samekh for attaining Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel. Gordon White uses it as the authority-rite at the center of his chaos practice. The rite's original purpose was exorcism and protection, driving out hostile spirits by claiming identity with a power that predates and outranks them.
