The phallic symbol was among the most widely used apotropaic symbols in Ancient Rome and Greece — worn as a talisman against the evil eye, carried by soldiers, and displayed in homes and public spaces as a sign of protection, fertility, and divine favour. It was not considered obscene but divine — a symbol of strength, luck, and sacred protection. It appeared on the walls of Pompeii, on Roman military standards, and in domestic shrines across the ancient world. This pendant renders that symbol in hand-carved bonded marble, finished with an oxidised sterling silver setting. The oxidised finish — darker and more antiqued than bright silver — gives the piece the quality of an archaeological object: something excavated rather than manufactured.
