It can also be used as a sedative to aid sleep. The active ingredient, promethazine hydrochloride, helps to block histamine receptors and reduce allergic responses. How To Use Dosage varies by age and condition. For allergies, children aged 6–10 years may take a single dose of one to five 5ml spoonful's OR one or two 5ml spoonful's twice daily. Adults and children over 10 years start with two 5ml spoonful's twice a day. This may be increased to a maximum of four 5ml spoonful's three times a day. Always follow the instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist. Phenergan Elixir is not suitable for children over 10 years and adults (includingthe elderly) as a short term sedative Safety Information Do not use if allergic to promethazine or any other ingredients.
