Brisbane/Meanjin locals PHENOMENA deliver their debut release as they conjure an enthralling yet off-kilter take on dark punk. Incorporating synth and noise laden atmospherics into the mix that oozes static as it does spook. The five-piece group drawing heavy influence from the absurd and macabre thematics of UK shadow dwelling, deathrocker punks RUDIMENTARY PENI. Whilst seeking to adapt and emulate tonal elements present in the tenebrous corners of European punk from the 80s/90s à la TOŽIBABE for instance. Further, melded with a hint of early INDUSTRIAL RECORDS flavour. A recording that continues to evolve, yet manically fall apart the longer you traverse down its rabbit hole. Comparisons can be odious. However, in a more contemporary sense; the band flirt with reference points that could arguably sit on a sonic spectrum somewhere between say SLIMY MEMBER or HELLSCAPE fused with the explorative approach of an outfit akin to KALEIDOSCOPE perhaps. Whilst, remaining distinctive in itself. You’ll have to see for yourself… Although, there are more certainties that take many different forms in life. We all bear witness to the evil slime that is horribly infectious. The human chair that leaves little to be desired. The blood stained receipts of expensive tastes that reveal the hidden truths of our harrowing reality. This is for the homosapien foie gras. Give yourself a pâté on the back. Welcome to PHENOMENA… Tape features four songs plus intro/interludes as well as an SPK cover all recorded on 4-track in rehearsal space. 200 copies available on stickered turquoise coloured tapes. Comes with hand numbered double-sided xeroxed photo/lyric sheet insert.
