It is the non-variegated form of the legendary Philodendron Caramel Marble. Because it lacks variegation, the Pluto is much more stable, grows faster, and is significantly hardier. Its name comes from its otherworldly appearance, and it has quickly become a "must-have" for enthusiasts who appreciate bold textures over flashy colors. How to Keep Your Pluto Happy The secret to a thriving Pluto is a chunkier soil mix and consistent humidity. Follow these tips to help it flourish: Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. While it can handle slightly lower light than its variegated cousins, bright light will reward you with larger, more deeply serrated leaves. Water: Allow the top 50% of the soil to dry out between waterings. Use a well-draining aroid mix to ensure the roots can breathe. Humidity: Thrives in average home humidity, but will grow much faster if given 50-60% humidity. This is especially important during dry Canadian winters! Soil: A mix of orchid bark, perlite, and potting soil is ideal to mimic its natural tropical environment. Temperature: Keep it warm! 18°C to 27°C is the sweet spot. Protect it from drafts and heating vents. Common Questions & Expert Tips Helping you find the best care answers quickly. Why are the leaves on my Philodendron Pluto turning yellow? Yellowing leaves on a Pluto are most often a sign of overwatering. Ensure the top half of the soil is dry before you water again. If the yellowing is accompanied by a soft stem, check for root rot and move the plant to a spot with better airflow. Is the Philodendron Caramel Pluto rare? The Pluto is considered a collector's plant. While it is more accessible than the variegated Caramel Marble, it is not commonly found in big-box stores. It is a prized find for those looking for unique, serrated tropical foliage. Is Philodendron Pluto toxic to cats? Yes, like most Philodendrons, the Pluto contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or ingested. It is best placed on a high plant stand or shelf away from curious pets. "How big will my Philodendron Pluto grow indoors?" In a home environment, the Pluto can reach a width of 2 to 3 feet as its leaves grow outward from the center. It is a self-heading plant, meaning it stays relatively compact in height but develops a grand, bushy presence over time. Ready to Secure Your Tropical Showstopper?
