Impressive sophomore effort from French popsters Phoenix! The follow up to their debut United took 4 years to complete and was a more cohesive attempt at showing what the band had yet to achieve. With their first sounding a bit schizo in styles, Alphabetical really tightens up and demonstrates the band's knack for sophisticated pop. While it isn't the seductive moments Air churns out, the group offers a future retro sound that French acts really have a talent for reproducing. For those that want the singles of United like 'If I Ever Feel Better' or 'Too Young' you won't find that here, instead you will find a mellower approach and solid offering throughout.
