Named after John Linden, who discovered the species near the Colombia–Venezuela border by Lake Maracaibo in 1843, this unusual Phragmipedium is truly one of a kind. Distribution-wi se, it is native to Venezuela, Colombia, Imbabura, Pichincha, Tungurahua, and Chimborazo provinces of Ecuador and Peru. Unlike all other lady slipper orchids, the pouch has mutated into a third petal, giving the flower a unique form. Botanically, it is thought to have evolved from Phrag. warscewiczianum (formerly wallisii).Mature plants can produce petals over 20 inches long, with up to 4–5 flowers on a single spike. First-time bloomers typically carry 1–2 flowers, but as plants grow larger, they become increasingly impressive in display.For cultivation, grow in a moisture-retentive medium such as fine bark with sphagnum, and keep evenly moist at all times. never allowing the mix to dry out.
