La Soufflerie mouth-blows the Piccola in Paris, by hand, one piece at a time. The name is the Italian diminutive - little one - and the form is a classical bud vase: a round belly, a flat base, a slightly flared neck and rim, sized for a single stem. Like every piece in the La Soufflerie catalogue, the Piccola is made from 100% recycled glass - bottles and broken windows folded back into the furnace and given another life. Fumé is the colour the molten glass takes on as it is gathered and worked: a soft, smoky grey that shifts toward translucent in direct light, and reads almost charcoal against a darker surface. No two are the same. The bubbles in the wall, the faint asymmetry of the rim, the slight thickening where the breath has rested - these are the evidence of the hand and the lung that made it. Exclusive to Australia.
