Sixty-five years ago, our pink breeding lines began to branch off into lavender iris, resulting in popular favorites such as Grand Waltz and Amethyst Flame. Compared to the above f amiliar solid lavender color, Pickathon is an attractive exemplar of the steady evolution in the nuances of this class. Gentle lavender standards are feathered magenta, making for a delightful contrast with the more emphatic overlay on the falls. Fuchsia-red hafts balance gold - tipped beards. A lovely watercolor wash on the sculpted falls, combined with glimpses of gold in the shadows, spurs the viewer to pull up a chair. Pickathon takes its name from a music festival near Portland, Oregon. Show more
