The second most common tree species in the United States. Originally from the Southeastern United States, this Southern Yellow Pine is a versatile and important species in the wood industry. With bright green needles that reach lengths of up to 10 inches, it provides a vibrant touch to Christmas decorations, while its fast growth and ability to swiftly colonize abandoned fields make it an adaptable woody plant. Loblolly pines grow well in acidic clay soil, which is common throughout the South, thus are often found in large stands in rural places.
