Luscious – Whisky – Almonds – Caramel The accepted tale is that Pineau des Charentes was borne of a error, when a winemaker mistakenly poured some pressed grape juice into a barrel for fermentation that already contained some cognac. Time & serendipity then played their part and a few years later when the barrel was opened for tasting - they were delighted to find a rather delicious & original concoction! The result is a drink that is amber in the glass, with sweet notes of peach, honey & almonds, balanced with more savoury notes of almonds, spices & orange zest Traditionally served as an apertif in France, but at St. JOHN it founds it's home on our dessert wine list, most often accompanying our freshly baked madeleines.
