A stag stands at the lower edge and deer graze at the water; birds cross the open sky at the centre. The brushwork is left visible throughout, so it reads as a painting hung across the wall rather than as a printed repeat.Rust Green is the warmest of the three — the foliage turns toward copper and ochre, so the scene reads as autumn rather than high summer.Painted in receding layers, it gives a flat wall a depth of field.
