Cardinal, the breakthrough album from Montclair, NJ's Pinegrove, is a poignant, genre-blending masterclass in emotional expression—now available on vinyl for immersive analog warmt h. Seamlessly weaving together indie rock, alt-country, and earnest pop, the band—anchored by Evan Stephens Hall, along with longtime collaborators Zack and Nick Levine—delivers a striking eight-song journey that explores themes of memory, language, and belonging with both vulnerability and grit. From the reflective opener “Old Friends” to the cathartic crescendo of “Size of the Moon,” Cardinal captures Pinegrove at their most intimate and dynamic. Hall’s earnest vocals recall the tenderness of Will Oldham and the trembling conviction of Doug Martsch, while the band’s rich instrumentation keeps each track grounded in sincerity. A critical darling and fan favorite, Cardinal marks Pinegrove’s evolution into one of indie rock’s most compelling voices. This vinyl edition is essential for lovers of lyrical depth, lo-fi charm, and the sound of home filtered through a dusty Americana lens. Show more
