Sporobolus junceus Common names also include Blue Dropseed, Purple Dropseed Pineywoods Dropseed is a warm season clumping grass native to east and south Texas, and the southeastern U.S. states. Its blue-green stems grow from 2 to 3 feet tall, and its tiny pink flowers rise even higher as they grow on long pyramidal panicles. It blooms from summer to fall, and provides winter interest as the dried seeds and old growth persist and turn a tawny brown. Pineywoods Dropseed is drought tolerant, but appreciates a little extra water as it gets established. It does best in well-drained sandy or loamy soil. It will grow thicker clumps in full sun, but can tolerate some shade.
