Piper Argyrites Silver Piper Argyrites was first published in 1912 and is native to southern Thailand and Malaya, growing as a liana in wet tropical forest. Traditionally harvested locally as a substitute for the true betel pepper (Piper betle), it's grown ornamentally for its shimmering, silver-marked foliage. This "Silver" form carries a cool silvery-white cast through the silvery leaf markings. Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference. Care tip: As a naturally climbing liana, this species does best given a moss pole or trellis rather than left to trail indefinitely — it will reward the support with fuller, more mature foliage. Give it bright, filtered light, a well-draining mix, and consistent warmth and humidity typical of lowland tropical forest. Like other ornamental Piper, allow the top of the mix to dry slightly between waterings rather than keeping it constantly saturated.
