Samuel McIntire was an architect and wood carver active during the late 18th and early 19th centuries in Salem, Massachusetts. He designed many public and private buildings in and around Salem. McIntire was also an accomplished wood carver, creating ornamental decoration for the exteriors and interiors of many of the buildings he designed, as well as for furniture made by local cabinet makers, and for sailing vessels. These drawings on these placemats are reproduced from the Samuel McIntire papers in the Peabody Essex Museum's Phillips Library.
