Approximately 150cm diameter About the Artisans Our collection of handwoven round mats are made by remote artisans from Nairai Island. This island is located within the Lomaiviti Island Group, which is well-known for their highly-skilled weaving. Historically a voyaging region, a large percentage of community members intermarried with persons from other island nations, further enriching the skilled artisan background of this island’s community. Mat weaving provides a critical and sustainable source of cash income or artisans isolated from local and international markets. Through weaving, their skills, knowledge and identities are preserved and promoted.
