TALK IS POISONwas rehearsing for some shows in thebasement and we met Dave and crew (theywere playing that day with WHAT HAPPENSNEXT, LIFES HALT—the best folks on theplanet).We played with each others bands afterwardon the East Coast, ABC NO RIO on New YorkCity’s Lower East Side for sure, LOOK BACKAND LAUGH with SPLITTING HEADACHE,CALIFORNIA LOVE. That sort of thing. Wehave mutual friends and a lot of the sameexceptional and dumb interests, may haveeven mentioned potentially doing a projectback around 2006? The pandemic andsmart phones made that very possible, lol.Dave and I started making songs (lyrics /music respectively) and sending them backand forth via text / Scratch Track duringquarantine / shelter-in-place period, we madethose songs into demos with Garageband.The quality was terrible, in a cool, low-fidelity way, we didn’t spend a lot of time onthem, strictly first-take policy. I love homerecordings and home demos where it soundsrough, with chunks and all, and the vocalssounding as if they are coming from acrossa long hall, bass is behind a cinderblock walldown the street. Chris Corry made those alllistenable, but the source recordings wereall done pretty badly by me (Brian). To behonest, the listener was never in mind, onlyan afterthought, they were demos. In June2022, we tuned up and re-imagined a bunchof the demo songs and gave them a properstudio recording with Jack Shirley at AtomicGarden in Oakland, CA.”
