Plerandra elegantissima is a tropical evergreen from New Caledonia, formerly classified under Schefflera and Dizygotheca. It is commonly known as false aralia. Its foliage emerges in copper to reddish tones and matures to deep green. The narrow, finely serrated leaflets are arranged in a palmate pattern, typically with 7 to 11 per leaf, giving the plant a delicate, textured appearance. In indoor settings, it remains relatively compact and upright, making it suitable for space-conscious growing environments. The plant has a slow to moderate growth rate and maintains a slender, upright form over time. It thrives in consistent indoor conditions and benefits from steady care. Given the right environment, it can maintain its ornamental foliage year-round and live for many years indoors without requiring frequent repotting or heavy pruning. Native to: New Caledonia. Produces narrow, toothed leaves with reddish-bronze new growth that turns dark green with age. Grows upright with a slender form. Water: Keep soil evenly moist, allowing the top third of the pot to dry out before watering again. Avoid waterlogging or letting the plant sit in standing water. Reduce watering slightly in winter. Light: Prefers bright filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight, which may scorch the delicate leaf margins. Can tolerate moderate light but thrives with more brightness. Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (above 50%). In dry indoor environments, increase humidity through misting, grouping, or a pebble tray. Not suitable for terrariums due to its potential mature size. Temperature: Thrives between 15–25 °C. Should be kept above 13 °C and protected from cold drafts or sudden temperature drops.
