The camshaft rear bore core plug is a pressed steel expansion plug that seals the machined bore at the rear of the camshaft gallery in the Rover V8 engine block. Its function is to prevent oil and coolant from escaping the casting at this point; a failed or displaced plug will result in visible oil loss from the rear of the engine, often mistaken for a rear main seal leak. Correct replacement is essential to maintaining internal engine pressure and preventing contamination of the clutch or gearbox bellhousing area.
