ERC8450 is a heater plug (glow plug) designed for the 2.5-litre diesel engines fitted to the Land Rover Defender, providing the pre-heat function required to ignite diesel fuel dur ing cold starts. On the naturally aspirated and turbocharged 2.5 diesel engines, failed or worn heater plugs commonly result in hard starting, excessive white smoke on startup, and misfiring until the engine reaches operating temperature. Replacing plugs individually rather than as a full set can cause uneven cylinder heating, so condition of all plugs should be assessed simultaneously.
