Prunus domestica (Self fertile, European Group – Mid/late Season) Mount Royal Plum has showy white flowers in the spring that are followed by blue fruit in late August/September. It is know to grow a LOT of fruit. This variety is self-pollinating, and does not need another plum to set fruit. The fruit is excellent for canning and jams, eating fresh, freezing, drying and baking. To grow in Alberta you will have to have a special microclimate; well suited to Calgary area or hot pockets around Red Deer to avoid winter damage.
