The pattern on the back of this pocket mirror comes from an eighteenth-century Austrian coffer belonging to Anna Freud. Decorated with floral motifs and faux-marble effects against a blue background, Anna Freud bought this rustic furniture in 1930 and used it to furnish the country house in the Vienna Woods which she shared with Dorothy Burlingham.
