King's College in the Mist, Photographer: Howard Rice. Print on Demand Art Print King's College was founded in 1441, by King Henry VI, who laid the founding stone of it's famous chapel in 1446. The subsequent unrest during the Wars of the Roses, and lack of funds meant that the construction took nearly 100 years to complete, and the Chapel and College were eventually completed (five kings later) by Henry VIII. This classic view of the college is across 'the backs' a meadow area kept clear by common consent of the Colleges, and also features the Gibbs, or Fellows building to the right of the chapel, low in the mist on the right of the chapel are the buildings of Clare College.
