Antica Barbieria Colla has been Milan's barbershop since 1904, still run today by the Bompieri family. Most beard waxes are concerned with appearance - softness, shine, hold. This one attends to those things. It also protects. The base is rice bran oil and shea butter; corn starch and hydrolysed wheat protein complete the formula. Applied by warming a small amount in the hands and working it through the beard with fingertips, it leaves the hair soft and polished. In cold weather, the wax forms a barrier that prevents wind from cracking the skin beneath. In summer, applied regularly to brown beards, it slows the process by which sun, wind, and salt water gradually turn the colour reddish.
