Van Gogh created the painting Pollard Willows at Sunset in Provence in 1888. The piece, which has a significant impact, is a part of the Kröller-Müller Museum collection in Otterlo. The artist depicted a classic Provence autumnal landscape. The sun is a disc from which coloured stripes extend and appear to produce a life force that permeates everything. The land and sky are separated by a thin light-blue band, while lines only vaguely delineate willows.
