The genus name Polygonatum is Latin for many knees and is named for the knobby rootstock. They are delightful and tough perennial plants for the garden, whose bold foliage adds a unique texture. Solomon's seal will slowly form dense colonies of architectural arching stems that are adorned with rows of bell-like flowers that dangle beneath them.
